The Development Insights Lab (DIL), in collaboration with the Department of Economics, University of Peshawar, and the Centre for Governance and Public Accountability (CGPA), organized a seminar on “Rights and Responsibilities of Citizens as per the Constitution of Pakistan” on September 30, 2025, at the Conference Hall, Department of Economics.
The seminar aimed to raise awareness among students and faculty about their constitutional rights and responsibilities, and to highlight the critical role of the Constitution as the foundation for economic growth, institutional development, and good governance.
Dr. Sanam Wagma Khattak, Lecturer, Department of Economics, and Senior Research Fellow, DIL, conducted the proceedings of the session.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Sajjad Ahmad Jan, Chairman, Department of Economics, and Coordinator, DIL, welcomed the distinguished guests and participants. He emphasized that the Constitution is the mother of all institutions, providing the rules of the game, protecting property rights, and laying the foundation of a market economy and sustainable development.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Altaf Qadir, Chairman, Department of History, who spoke extensively about the rights and responsibilities of citizens under the Constitution of Pakistan. He highlighted the importance of constitutional literacy in strengthening democracy and promoting active citizenship.
On behalf of CGPA, Ms. Shehzadi Rubab, Officer CGPA, introduced the organization and its initiatives to promote transparency, accountability, and citizen participation. Mr. Deedar Khan from CGPA also attended the seminar.
At the end of the session, Dr. Sajjad Ahmad Jan presented shields of appreciation to the guest speakers and extended a special shield to Prof. Dr. Anwar Alam, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, for gracing the occasion with his presence and support.





The event was attended by faculty members and students from the Departments of Economics, History, and Development Studies, who engaged actively in the discussion on constitutional awareness, rights, and civic responsibilities.
